How 7T automated 1000+ test scenarios in a year, after just 50 tests in 3 years with Selenium
Customer Overview
7T (SevenTablets) is a Dallas-based leader in Digital Transformation, with deep expertise in AI, machine learning, and the creation of next-generation business solutions. They specialize in enterprise software, mobile and web applications, process automation, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps. They tackle complex challenges with innovative solutions, including machine learning-powered AI systems that accelerate clients’ growth and position them for long-term success.
Let us find out what they were able to accomplish with testRigor.
The Problem
The company was using Selenium with Java and TestNG for automation, which was effective, but required extensive coding and ongoing maintenance. They had 130 test cases documented, primarily maintained manually or automated using Selenium setup with Java and TestNG. As the case with the traditional automation frameworks, they had spent 3 years building 50 automated test cases with Selenium. But keeping them up to date took a lot of time and effort, so they were looking for an easier solution.
Before purchasing testRigor, they had a total of 6 QA engineers — two manual testers and four automation engineers. Adding a test case took 1–2 hours using automation tools, especially with complex setups like VPNs or remote desktops.
Then, the team was first introduced to testRigor by one of the employees, who recommended it for its ease of use and codeless automation. Around the same time, a colleague in India mentioned hearing about it from a friend successfully using it in their organization.
Key Objectives
- Automate 1000+ test scenarios, and reduce manual testing
- Minimize the time spent on test case writing, maintenance, and execution
- Manage testing activities with their team of 4 QA professionals
- Reduce the test maintenance effort as compared to Selenium
The Solution
7T had around 200 test cases documented prior to using testRigor. Out of these test cases, 50 were automated using Selenium with Java and TestNG, and the rest of the test cases were executed manually. This provided a level of satisfactory coverage, however, it required too much effort and time for test execution and maintenance, limiting additional test coverage investment . They had a team of 6 QA professionals – 4 automation engineers and two manual testers. This team took 3 years to build 50 automated test cases in Selenium, and the regular upkeep was time-consuming.
With testRigor, they have automated 1000+ scenarios combined within 70 test cases. testRigor’s no-code intelligent automation allowed the engineers to automate more than 1000 scenarios in only one year. The test suites cover their most critical workflows, and they are gradually expanding the test suite as they continue optimizing their automation strategy. Although it’s fewer than before, the tests are more reliable, cover more functional areas, and take much less effort to maintain than with Selenium. testRigor’s no-code approach made it easier to scale their tests without heavy programming.
Prior to testRigor they were using MS Excel for test management and tracking. Now, they have integrated testRigor with Jira to create, link and track issues from test results automatically. After implementing testRigor, they have streamlined the team to 4 QA professionals in total, combining both manual and automation roles.
testRigor’s generative AI-based no-code test automation in plain English has helped 7T save considerable time, budget, and effort in test creation and maintenance.
Solution Highlights
- Automated 70 test cases in one year, as compared to 50 test cases in 3 years using Selenium
- Achieved more in less time, with a smaller QA team
- Increased test creation speed by 100% as compared to Selenium
- Video recordings of test execution are helpful in finding and fixing the issue for QAs and developers both
- Massive maintenance effort, tests broke
- Around 2-3 production defects
- 10 tests were created in a day
- Test creation took so much time and effort due to coding and manual execution
- Half an hour in the test execution of a single test
- Tests break less often, saving time each sprint
- Lower Defect Escape Rate, zero or one production defect
- 20 tests can be created in a day with more coverage
- It takes only minutes to create tests
- Now it takes only 5 minutes to execute a test
The Result
With testRigor, 7T could automate 1000+ test scenarios in one year. testRigor’s plain English-based test automation, powered by intelligent generative AI, makes it easy for anyone on the team to create and execute tests. Writing tests in plain English saves them lots of time on coding and fixes, letting a smaller team do more. Tests stay reliable even when the UI changes, so they spend less time fixing them. Time and budget saving is a huge win. They particularly like the testRigor’s features such as video recording of test execution, the ease of file, mobile, and data-driven testing.
Test creation speed has been increased by 100%, with generative AI-based features. testRigor has boosted their team’s productivity and helped cut costs. Partnering with testRigor allowed 7T to accelerate their testing process quickly and easily with minimum maintenance.
